Mini Lush Haul + Review

Last week I went to Lush and purchased some goodies, I ran out of my favorite lip scrub but decided to try some new products instead of my usual bath bombs and facial masks. I never used any toners, shower gel or the space girl bath bomb. Yummy Mummy shower gel is a new and popular product that I really wanted to try but was on the fence about but thanks to a fellow lush addict I adore on instagram she provided me with great feed back about it and She did not sell it short of how awesome it is! (Thank you Christina!)

If you’re a bubble bath lover like I am you must try the bath bombs my all time favorite is the phenox rising….pretty much any bath bomb that gives off a pink/purple color.

Pleasent fragrance
Lathers well
Good for sensitive skin

Scent doesn’t last very long
Limited eddition

Overall Rating 3.8/5

I am loving this shower gel at the moment, even more than the GUD shower gel I reviewed in the past you can check that out by clicking here. I love the strawberry scent it leaves on my skin however I notice the scent starts to stray less than hour but still delivers squeeky clean skin. The silver luster is mostly composited in the bottom of the bottle so I have yet to see any noticable shimmer on my skin.

Great for oily/acne skin
Dries out pimples

Overall Rating 4.2/5

I’ve only been using the toner water for a week but I have noticed my face to be less oily and pimples have reduced in size and dried. I do find that using this product can cause dryness so if you have sensitive skin like me I wouldn’t suggest every day use and also follow directions and close those peepers because it will sting your eyes!

Removes dead skin

Overall Rating 4.6/5

This is my favorite lip scrub, I have a horrible habit of picking/biting my lips which ends in overly chapped lips so this has helped me subside the bad habit alot, it does a great job I usually apply my burts bees lip balm afterward.

Planting Herbs In Brooklyn

In reguard to Earth Day (yesterday)  I decided it would be perfect timing to plant my herb seeds I purchased at Home Depot two weeks ago. I picked up my favorite herbs I often use for cooking, cilantro is my all time favorite for garnishing, sage, parsley for my mushroom medely recipe and basil well just for future receipes that call for such. The only challenge now is making sure my plants and herbs get the nutrients and much needed sunlight living in an apartment in Brooklyn although I’d like to think it will last summers succulent plants didnt hold up well :-/

Overall Rating 4.7/5

I brought AG haircare products at Ulta during a sale for $20 each for the 33.8 oz bottles (original retail $50 each) so it was a pretty good bargin! I also opted for this brand because it is Cruelty-Free. I’ve used the Burts Bees pomegranate sulfate-free shampoo+conditioner which was good for say a quick cleanse but I find this brand to be more luxurious if you like to get alittle more fancy with your haircare. I dye my hair black with a demi permanent hair color ans find that this duo helps lock in my colour alittle longer, and the conditioner is great for my dry brittle hair. I’ve read some reviews on the ulta website where some experienced dryness from using the shampoo which I have as well however it could be due to my natural hair texture, lack of hydration and vitamin intake. As for the volumizing foam, I love it, its great for my fine hair and I notice a difference when I dont use it my hair tends to look more flat and limp. This brand is overall pretty good especially when you find a good deal as I did at Ulta. So far the products have lasted me 4 months and still going (I don’t wash/blow dry my hair everyday)

*I also want to state that AG Hair Cosmetics donates a portion of sales to Women Leading Change which helps educate women in uganda and kenya. For more information you can visit the website

Pineapple Rice & Tempeh

I recently received a Breville slow cooker as a gift, apparently my rice cooking skills aren’t up to par (It seems to always burn on the bottom). I was craving some pineapple rice so I put my new slow cooker to use, and thankfully NO burnt rice which means I won’t have to scrape out the access that’ll just go to waste.

Just a quick tip, whether you decide to use fresh or canned pineapples (I took the easy route) you can grill it or just pop them in the slow cooker about 5 minutes *before the rice is fully cooked.

Now on to the tempeh, this was my first attempt using tempeh as a chicken subsitiute which is made up of soybeans and packed with protein. It cooks pretty rapidly, can be seasoned to your liking-I love it!!! how did I not use it before, IDK!

I followed a recipe online while substituting a few ingredients, The total time for meal prep/cooking would be about 25 minutes depending on your slow cooker settings and amount of rice.

Pineapple Rice Ingredients:

  • Slow cooker
  • 1 cup White rice
  • 1 cup Water
  • Pineapple (fresh or canned) *I prefer canned pineapple chunks

Follow the directions on your slow cooker for appropriate cooking time.

5 minutes prior to rice being fully cooked, drain pineapples from can and toss in pineapples.

Tempeh Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Tempeh (Lightlife brand)
  • 1 tbsp of EVOO
  • ½ Cup or ¼ of Soy Sauce
  • ¼ cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1tsp fresh Ginger (grated)
  • 1 ½ tbsp of Agave or Maple syrup
  • 1 tsp of Sesame oil
  • ¼ Cup of Water *mixed* with 3 tsp of Cornstarch

Once Rice is prepared…

In a small saucepan combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, agave(maple syrup), sesame oil, and water with cornstarch. Bring to a boil until thickened a bit, careful not to burn. Set aside.

Over medium-high in a medium non-stick frying pan, heat EVOO.                Once tempeh is brown pour in desired amount of teriyaki sauce. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until sauce sticks to tempeh.

Serve immediately over rice & enjoy!

**If you rather skip making your own teriyaki sauce, Use premade Teriyaki sauce the Kikkoman brand makes a pretty good one!

Milani Rose Blush Review

What Is It?

Rose powder blush from Milani

Product Claims

“Now this is a blush that deserves to be seen! Gorgeous in the compact, even prettier on cheeks, this petal soft, natural-finish powder shapes, contours and highlights. Streaks? Never. Easy to use? Always. In ultra-flattering shades that you just can’t live without.”

Easily blend-able

Overall Rating 5/5

Okay so here is alittle back story about my product experience in the past with Milani, back in highschool I mostly used drug store cosmetics and Milani was my first brand of instense eye shadows, I remember buying a matte bright blue and the pigment was freaking amazing! It was my staple eyeshadow and afforadble for a teen my age at the time. I love that this brand is cruelty free and also uptains good quality products.

These rose blushes were apart of a limited addition line however due to its popular demand Milani decided to make them permanently a part of their blush line (smart move Milani!) I’m in love with everything from the rose detail to the color choices and intensity, you can apply lighty for a natural look or glow or a more opaque coverage. The Tea Rose is my absolute favorite but I find all 3 colors to be flattering for any skin-tone.

DR. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Review

What Is It?

A anti-aging facial peel presoaked on towelettes.

Product Claims

“These patented two-step treatment pads deliver visable antiaging results without recovery time. They work to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pore size while creating a more even skintone and brightening complextion. Recommended for sensitive skin, the pads also work to calm redness and irritation and clear imperfections resulting in a healthy, glowing complextion.”

Fast results
Even skintone
Smooths out skin texture
Helps  to reduce existing pimples

Doesn’t minimize pore size

Overall Rating 4/5

I recieved this sample package with a sephora order and just recently used it. I’m on the third day of use and can already see noticeable changes in my skins texture and probelmatic pimples have greatly reduced. I will say it is quite drying which I wouldn’t recommend for daily use though the product claims it is safe to do so. I did get alittle redness post treatment but it went away within 3 minutes, nothing too irritating. I would love to make this part of my skincare routine but holy moly it is pricey! I am pleased with the results which makes me a believer in this product however its one of those products to rarely splurge on.
